Festive, cozy, joyful… and so easy to pull together.
There is something magical about inviting friends and family into your home during the holidays — the glow of candles, the scent of something delicious in the oven, the laughter that fills every corner. A Cookie Exchange Party is one of my favorite ways to celebrate the season. It’s low-stress, fun, and full of that warm, generous spirit we call Filoxenia.
Whether you love holiday hosting or you want to try something new this year, this little gathering is simple to plan and unforgettable to experience.
Let me walk you through everything you need to create a festive cookie exchange that feels cozy, organized, and completely joyful.

Set the Scene: Create a Cozy Holiday Atmosphere
A cookie party deserves a space that feels warm and inviting.
Think soft lighting and twinkling details.
Here are some simple ways to set the mood:
• Use lamps instead of bright overhead lighting
• Add candles everywhere — real or LED
• Bring in festive greens: pine branches, eucalyptus, rosemary sprigs
• Use a long wooden board or a table runner to anchor the cookie display
• Add little pops of red and gold for warmth
• A vase of winter flowers or carnations adds instant festivity
Your home doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to feel warm and lived in — your guests will remember how you made them feel, not whether every pillow was fluffed.

The Cookie Display: Make It Special and Easy
This is the heart of the party — the moment everyone walks in and sees a beautiful table overflowing with treats.
Use what you already have:
• Cake stands
• Tiered trays
• Platters in different shapes and heights
• Wood boards
• Holiday tins
• Large serving bowls for smaller cookies
• Cute cookie jars or clear containers
Mix and match textures for a cozy, abundant look — wood, ceramic, glass, metal. It’s all beautiful together.
Tip: Add little name cards so guests know which cookie is which.
You can also leave out blank holiday cards so everyone can write a note to attach to their cookie box or exchange with a friend. It adds such a sweet personal touch.

What Each Guest Should Bring
Keep it simple!
Ask each guest to bring:
• 1–2 dozen cookies
• Optional: printed recipe cards (everyone loves leaving with new recipes)
• Optional: ribbon, twine, festive bags, or decorations for packaging
And of course, you’ll be adding a few of your own favorites. Greek cookies like kourabiedes and melomakarona are perfect for a cookie exchange because they’re sturdy, festive, and completely irresistible.

Packaging Station: Make It Fun and Beautiful
Set up a small area where guests can package their cookies to take home. This is where the magic happens!
Ideas for your packaging station:
• 8×8 pastry boxes
• Holiday tins
• Parchment or foil squares to line the boxes
• Cupcake liners (great for separating cookies)
• Ribbon and twine
• Mini ornaments
• Gift tags
• Holiday stickers
• Clear cookie bags
Add plenty of cute filler treats like:
• Chocolate pretzels
• Wrapped chocolates
• Peppermint bark
• Holiday candy
These little extras make the boxes feel special — and your guests will absolutely love it.
What to Serve at Your Cookie Exchange
Since the cookies are the star of the show, keep the food simple. You have a few easy options:
A. Host Between Lunch and Dinner
Serve bite-sized, easy finger foods:
• Spanakopita triangles
• Tiropita
• Tzatziki
• Olives, cheese, and toasted pita
Everything can be prepped ahead so you’re relaxed when guests arrive.
B. Host Around Dinner Time
Serve one cozy dish, family-style:
• Pastitsio
• Baked ziti
• Lemon potatoes with roast chicken
• A simple salad
This keeps the evening warm and effortless.
C. Host After Dinner
Keep it light and magical:
• Hot tea
• Coffee
• Spiced hot cocoa
• Mulled cider
This version feels like a cozy winter café inside your home.

How the Cookie Exchange Works
Once everyone arrives, have them place their cookies on the display table. Admire, nibble, chat, laugh. Later in the evening, each guest fills a box with a mix of cookies to take home.
It’s simple, low-stress, and absolutely delightful.
