I grew up in a traditional Greek family in New York, where every meal was homemade and every gathering was centered around a table full of delicious food. Summers were spent on the beautiful island of Crete, visiting grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Those moments of sharing meals, stories, and laughter in such a warm, laid-back setting became the foundation of who I am today. My Cretan roots run deep, and they continue to inspire the way I cook and the way I share food with others.
Cooking has always been my passion. From a young age, I was fascinated by the flavors and traditions of Greek cuisine, and I fell in love with the joy that comes from feeding people. That love eventually led me to open a restaurant in 2008, right in the middle of a recession. Without any prior experience in the food business, I dove in headfirst, and it became one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. For ten years, I learned, grew, and cooked for countless guests before selling the restaurant in 2018 so I could focus fully on sharing recipes and creating content for Dimitra’s Dishes.
What started as requests for cooking classes evolved into a YouTube channel filled with step-by-step video tutorials, this website where all of the recipes live, and eventually cookbooks that I am proud to share with the world.
My goal has always been simple: to make cooking approachable, joyful, and filled with tips and tricks that make life easier. Whether it’s cake decorating techniques, baking tips, freezer-friendly instructions, or make-ahead guidance, I weave everything I’ve learned into my recipes so that you can succeed in your own kitchen.
Welcome to my table! Together, we’ll cook, share, and create memories inspired by the traditions of Greece and the beauty of homemade food. My recipes are simple, delicious, and always worth sharing. I hope they help you create moments of joy and connection with the people you love most.
