Easy Zesty sweet chicken for any night of the week!
These honey lemon chicken drumsticks are the perfect weeknight entrée. It’s easy to make, ready in thirty minutes, and pretty inexpensive. So many different sides go well with this that you can pick your favorite and enjoy. There’s a little bit of an Asian flavor to the sauce, so you could even add a tablespoon or two of soy sauce and have Asian chicken in the same amount of time. It’s so quick and delicious that I can’t wait for you to try it!

Sweet and Zesty
- Chicken drumsticks
- Olive oil
- Fresh lemon juice –be sure to use fresh, so your sauce is fresh too
- Garlic cloves, grated
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
- Honey –use more honey if you want your sauce even stickier
- Garnish: 2-3 scallions, thinly sliced with lemon wedges
Do I have to use drumsticks?
I use drumsticks because they are inexpensive, cook in a reasonable amount of time, and stay juicy. Chicken thighs or quarters would be a great alternative because they stay juicy as well. Chicken breast is a little bit tricky because if you overcook it, it tends to dry out. The sauce will help a bit with that, but you still want to cook it well. Just sear it for about three minutes on each side and then finish cooking it in the sauce.
How to make Lemon Honey Chicken Drumsticks
- Season the chicken on both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the chicken on all sides –about 8 minutes total.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the lemon juice, garlic, and honey.
- Pour the lemon honey sauce into the pan with a half cup of water.
- Cover with a lid and cook over medium heat until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 °F, 74 °C –about 15 minutes.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed and then garnish with the sliced scallions and lemon wedges.

Lemon Honey Chicken Drumsticks Ready in 30 Minutes!
- 6-7 chicken drumsticks (1 pound/500g)
- 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 3 garlic cloves, grated
- salt, to taste
