PIZZA POT PIES
Yield:
4 Pot Pies
Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough (1/3 of my N.Y. Style Pizza Recipe)
- Pizza sauce:15 ounce can of crushed tomatoes
- 1.5 oz. tomato paste (put the rest in an airtight container and freeze for another recipe)
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/8 teaspoon (or more) crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 and ½ teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
Instructions
- Blend all of the ingredients in a food processor until incorporated. That's it!!! You can make the sauce a day ahead or the same day. I like to make it a day ahead for convenience and also, more flavor.
- 10 mozzarella cheese slices
- ¼ cup olive oil for brushing bowls and top of dough
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- Dried oregano
- Optional: thick meat sauce
- Mushroom slices
- Meatballs
- Grilled chicken slices
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. 204 degrees Celsius.
-
- Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces and form into round balls. Set aside covered with a clean towel to rest and rise.
- Brush the bowls with olive oil, inside and halfway down from the top. This is so that when they are ready, they release easily into a bowl.
- Cover the bottom of the bowl (inside) with 5 cheese slices. Place your favorite “toppings” over the cheese slices. Choose anything that you like on pizza: mushroom slices, grilled chicken, meat sauce, meatballs…
- Top with the pizza sauce.
- Stretch each ball of dough to cover the bowl and to hang over the edges of the bowl.
- Brush the dough with olive oil. Season with salt, pepper, and oregano.
- Place all of the pizza pot pies onto a baking tray.
- Bake in the oven 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden.
- Carefully flip the pizza pot pies onto plates or bowls. Wear oven mitts while doing this.
- Use a knife or spoon to help release the crust from the bowl.
- Serve immediately.
- Enjoy!
Where can we find the recipe for the dough made for the pot pies?
