Give the delicious gift of a homemade holiday cookie box!
Your friends and family will love you even more when you give them one of my delicious holiday cookie boxes! The cookies are irresistible and beautiful, and making them gives you a reason to purchase the fantastic decorative boxes I’ve seen this year.
I stick to my shortbread cookie dough as a base because it’s super simple and makes the best shortbread cookies. From there, you can make so many variations of cookies that it will be hard to choose which ones to gift. Plus, you can even make these now because they freeze so well.
Now, let’s talk cookies!

Where did you get those tins?
It’s hard to control myself with so many gorgeous tins every year, but I try to just get the ones I really love or that I think my gift recipient would love. I like tins because they protect the cookies from moisture and offer a bit more protection from breakage when transporting.
Where can I get the cookie boxes?
The paper boxes in my pictures came in a package of four, and I love that they give the “made at home” or “bakery” feel. Plus, you can customize them a bit more than a tin with colorful ribbons and handwritten name tags. You could even let the kids stamp the boxes for teachers or grandparents before filling them for a sweet, personal touch.
How do I keep the cookies separate?
Dividers allow you to keep the dry cookies separate from the ones frosted, dipped, or sandwiched. Some boxes come with dividers, but if the ones you like don’t, you can get them separately. There are even dividers for tins so you can keep the cookies separate no matter what you decide to put them in.
I can make these cookies ahead and freeze them?
Yes! They freeze so well. Just cut the dough into cookie shapes and place them on parchment-lined baking trays. Then, put them in the freezer until frozen. Transfer them to freezer-safe containers or bags, and you can keep them frozen for up to two months. When you’re ready to deliver your cookies, place them on baking trays lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated (350 °F) oven for about 25 minutes or until golden around the edges.
How long will the baked cookies last?
In my house, not very. HaHa! It will be like that at your house, too, because all of these cookies are so delicious. Of course, they taste best right out of the oven or within the first few days, but if you store them in an airtight container at room temperature, they’ll be good for at least a week. Again, if they’re not all eaten before then.
